Wood Species White Ash White Ash (Fraxinus Americana) has been the staple in baseball bats since the game began. The heartwood of White Ash is somewhat brown in color, while the sapwood is nearly white. Norse mythology refers Ash as “the mighty tree that supports the heavens and below earth its roots went down to hell.” White Ash is particularly sought because of the inherent qualities of this wood; strong, hard and stiff, and high resistance to shock. The wood is generally straight grained with a course uniform texture. Ash turns well and can be stained to a very good finish. Our billets are cut from old growth wood and kin dried to 10%-12% moisture content. Growth rings per inch are from 8 to 12. This is no doubt White Ash has a proven track record in the game of baseball. Hard Maple
